The Arai RX-Q is basically another version of the Corsair race helmet, but made for the street. The Arai RX-Q has the oval shape as opposed to the round. The new shape is shaped closely to the round oval that riders who wear Arai helmets are used to, and it fits as quite well compared to the discontinued Quantum II.

Arai helmets are made of fiberglass because of its ability to be molded for better impact absorption, and the fiberglass is molded by hand in their Japanese factory as it has always been done for decades.

The RX-Q shape has been refined using aerodynamic testing. The Arai RX-Q also feature the same wide face shield opening that is used on the Corsair, providing a great peripheral (side to side) view which is a nice safety feature.

Taken from their Formula 1 experience the interior uses a new cheek pad designed for a demanding race environment, which prompt Arai to create a head-cradling, 12-piece, fully washable and removable layout which benefits the wearer with a solid air seal, for better ventilation and lower noise levels, and more even contact with the skin.

The oncoming air is forced through a chin vent or dual visor vents that are used to minimize structure-weakening holes in the shell. There is also dual diffuser vents at top, to suck out the humid air, and four outlets at the rear. This design is why the RX-Q is a great street helmet for those hot days where ventilation is much needed. On the road the Arai RX-Q the venting is very functional and they even close securely.

The shell of the Scorpion EXO 1000 is made of reinforced Kevlar and fiberglass and it has been certified to be both Snell M2005 and DOT rated.

It comes with an anti-scratch and anti-fog faceshield that can be quickly removed and serviced or cleaned. A cool feature about the EXO 1000 in terms of comfort is the interior has a built-in and movable pump and inflatable bladder behind each cheekpad, so you can inflate or deflate to your liking and firm up the snugness or release pressure as need be. A draw back to this, is that there is no room for earphones. The interior features Kwik Wick moisture control fabric that can be taken out and washed when things get a bit yucky.

When the vents are firmly shut and the fit is snug after adding some air in the cheek pocket the Scorpion EXO 1000 Sublim helmet actually achieved an acceptable noise level. This model features Scorpion’s drop down and flip up sunshade, it is like having sunglasses built right into the helmet.

Although a little on the heavy side, the Scorpion EXO 1000 Sublim has very good shape and aerodynamics, along with the other features mentioned above the EXO 1000 makes a good buy.

Price: $310
